Teaching

As an instructor of record and teaching assistant at UC San Diego, I’ve developed a teaching style that prioritizes equity, student feedback, and active learning. I believe transparency about the connections between what we do in class and the course’s learning objectives, but also about aspects of the hidden curriculum that could benefit students, is essential to equity-minded teaching. My syllabi always include multiple checkpoints for student feedback and classroom activities that improve learning.

At the undergraduate level, I teach a class on qualitative interviewing in which small groups collaborate on an interview project that builds on existing research on careers and work. Syllabus available here. Overall, 100% of participants in my qualitative interviewing course said the course developed their understanding and skills on the subject, and 98% of undergraduate students I instructed as a TA said they would recommend me to other students.

At the graduate level, I develop and teach workshops about academic writing and do one-on-one mentoring with students on their writing projects. Graduate students I have mentored praised my “direct, clear feedback” and said that I was “extremely helpful in guiding [them] on how to better convey research findings to an audience.”

In the future, I would love to teach courses on the future of work, the early career, and research methods.
